This is a side of China carefully constructed by the designers,
not long ago, of the Huntington Library in Pasadena..
This side of the Chinese culture, that reminds me of the American.
They like to go all out. They marvel at anything big.
These are not the details of a typical street scenes
of China where I walked,
of China where I walked,
(except for some parts of the big cities,)
but nonetheless, here you can see
they have a keen eye for beauty.
they have a keen eye for beauty.
Two liondogs as they call them, guard the entrance
of the Chinese Garden .
They look intimidating enough:)
They look intimidating enough:)
On both sides of the entrance these bushes
with beautiful white flowers in almost round clusters
This has something of a gazebo. The vertical rows of roof tiles
attracted my attention. Wish I could read Chinese.
That was my only complaint on our trip in mainland China.
My blogfriend Judy Sheldon Walker -isn't she awesome?-
asked her friend -the sign says, "A Rest house for 3 friends"!

The colors in this garden were overall subtle
or neutral, except for the waterlilies.
This wall of wooden panels shows off Chinese artwork
with each a different scene.

You can see on the left that it has a roof, but is outside

All of these photos are lovely - I've heard that China has the most magnificent flowers, and, in fact, is the source of many of the flowers and wildflowers we enjoy in meadows, gardens and greenhouses around the world. That flowering bush reminds me of a hydrangea, or a snowball bush.
And that gazebo! Wow.. Looks like a lovely place to sit, but I'd prefer to be where you stood to take this photo so I could admire its graceful lines!
My favorite photo is of the water lilies. Aren't you just itching to paint that scene???? :-)
Great to knowing Chinese garden,

Hi Jesh ~~ Long time, no see. Thank you for peeking in on my "K" Kangaroos.
Your Chinese garden is very pretty. I wish Houston had one but there is a fairly nice one in neighboring Katy. Houston does have a beautiful Japanese Garden at the Herman Memorial Park.

We have booked a trip to Mainland China for October. I've bought a book of pictorial and phonetic Chinese - I may sound like a fool, but I'm going to try to communicate if only a little.

Pondside, we visited our son, who at that time had been there a year. The hardest is to remember the tone (there are 5 tones, and the same word may something different with each tone -very tricky!) Hope you'll get some expressions down 0and am looking forward to the pics!
Naturefootstep, it's the newest garden at the Huntington, and they did a great job -people linger there!
