UNFORGETTABLE KODAK MOMENTS

Is one whole loaf of bread not enough for you guys?

In the life of a Nana
capturing time
with the children of my children
returning to innocence
and freedom of childhood

looks like we may have a dancer in the family:)

She dances because she LOVES water

Got a kick out of Willie, when he put all his gifts in a row, and started unwrapping  the smallest package! No one gave him any suggestions.
In my mind I applaud him,  hoping he'll always will honor the small as well as the big gifts in life.

Put a filmgrain on it for Mandarin Monday

Not having had grandparents myself
it's an absolute delight to do art with my grand children

satisfying to give them special experiences with their grandparents

Childhood is supposed to be a carefree happy experience
but from my years of counseling also little kids
I know that large clouds can loom on the horizon
and won't go away for a long time
for these "kid"s I wish a happier adulthood.

How much do our dreams change
in a life time!
At this age
big dreams are to be the boss of a train

Like to know what your unforgettable moments are ...

Thanks to all the hosts!

HOLLAND and TUSCANY

Have been super busy buying like there's no tomorrow
things I need for my big trip this year.
Last year it was Utah.

This year it's Holland
hopefully we'll have some sun and sunsets)
we'll see if we'll get  clear or cloudy skies!

Getting flights and hotels were done very quickly
but then ...

A heavier French easel is okay  when you can drive up
to the place for painting,
but going by plane forces me to minimized
the bulk and weight.

I'm in love with his beautiful pochade box
from Madisonart.com
my 12 oil paint tubes fit in there - yay!
and the box in their backpack is my carry-on.
They are beautiful and functional!

Leakproof watercolor containers (each color separate)
last year in Utah over 100 degr. F,
my colors started running together so much
that I had to throw everything away:(

 small oil brush washer,
saddle soap in case I can't find an art store close by,
a strap to keep my brushes organized

Since I have to teach  three workshops
Am I going crazy wild Californian?
Love the lace inset of the -not red -but coral top,
but need to find a solution to cover up

Or,  more demure and inconspicuous beige and cream?
Found the 2 gorgeous linen shawls at our favorite hangout
Upstart Crow (bookstore/cafe in San Diego)

What about a flower in my hair?
maybe too exotic for a Northern country...

modified for Mandarin Orange Monday

Still gotto get a good pair of flats  of a lighter color.
Like to be "grounded" when an audience
is watching me paint

The only nice ones I could find were a gold
 - not too thrilled about it, so am still looking!

my first publication  of a little bragbook
of 33 pages (also in sidebar)
to show some of the mediums I paint in
via MyPublisher.com
so I don't have to schlepp around
prints with me:)

These are the more pleasurable parts of prepping, lol!
Passport renewal plus pic was $132 for each of us (really!)
and $25 for the most horrible passport pic (groan)
also had to make an hour drive  twice
to the Dutch consulate in Los Angeles
Nevertheless,

I'm roaring to go!

After my "work that I love like life" is over
a week of Tuscany Italy
guess what we're going to do on our vacation?
You got it - hope to come back with at least  some oils or watercolor :)

Keeping my fingers crossed that
I will still be able to participate in the weekly memes
- I preposted for 4 weeks -
and my Ipad will work in Holland!

but if not, please comment and I'll find you afterwards,
 dear bloggie friends!

CAMELLIA FOR MOTHERSDAY

*

One day I painted this watercolor
 of these Camellia blooming
by my bedroom window

We had moved into the (previous) house
in Sept., and didn't pay much attention
to this little insignificant looking tree
by the window, till it became
a spectacle at the New Year
 with all these gorgeous Camellia

Since then I discovered this Camellia,
in a subtle and elegant,
a bridal white

 and a striking
dramatic red
fitting the sacrificial life
of compassionate love
synonymous of that of a mother.

a day in memory of my dear
Mama Barnes
who gave and gave
expected nothing in return.

Am grateful to have known a mother like this in my life
Mama Barnes came in my life during college

Sky above El Capitain -on right -in Yosemite Nat. Park, CA

She couldn't have kids of her own
but was a mother to many!
Without her my life might have been
the cloud scramble you see above
going into every direction!
Mama B. infused me with encouragement, wisdom,
and confidence I could later pass on to others.
